Just Ask! Goes Live!

JustAsk! logo'Just Ask!', the website of the Community Legal Service, went live today (3rd April 2000). It is intended to be the first port of call for people wishing to find legal information and help via the Internet.

The website is an exciting and innovative strand of the CLS development, ensuring that new technology plays a major role in supporting and enhancing provision of legal services.

'Just Ask!' provides co-ordinated access to 400 online legal information and help websites through its Advice Search feature. 'Just Ask!' also features an electronic version of the CLS Directory, to be updated daily, containing over 15,000 entries. The Directory enables users to locate, either locally or nationally, legal service providers that can assist with the query at hand.

One of the focuses of the development of 'Just Ask!' has been to promote inclusiveness. The site has been built in accordance with World Wide Web Consortium guidelines that ensure websites meet the needs of disabled users. It also features information in Welsh and six community languages (Bengali, Cantonese, Gujarati, Hindi, Punjabi and Urdu). The site is accessible via many channels: PCs, games consoles, web-TV and kiosks.

Development has taken place in consultation with the legal profession, advice agencies and Government departments. There is a commitment to further development of the site, updating it in accordance with the needs of users, incorporating new areas of relevance to the CLS and taking advantage of emerging technologies.

Just Ask! is designed and powered by Fujitsu.
